19 / 09 / 11 – Alternative Speech from the Throne in The Hage
Last Monday, the day before the opening day of the Dutch Parliament, a National Deliberation was held in The Hage. Affiliated union (FNV, CNV, MHP), CG-Raad (chronic diseased and disabled persons) and the Union of Churches and Humanity, demonstrated on the 19th of September against cut downs by parliament Rutte, that will hit the lower and average incomes. After meetings in the morning, a manifestation was held at the Malieveld in the afternoon. Beside several speakers an alternative speech from the throne was done and the Metropole Orkest played. Acting upon instructions of the ABVAKABO/FNV, MATCH SMS made sure the Twitterapplication at the big screen was working properly. Twitter turned out to be an effective way of communication for participants and the public to have their voices be heard. The hashtag #19demo was one of the trending topics in The Netherlands during that day. A much discussed subject, that created even more media attention than they were hoping for.
